An Electrical, Instrument & Controls Technician is required for an industrial power generation and utilities environment in Richmond, Virginia. This is a hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting and repair role covering instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment that support safe, reliable plant operations.
The Electrical, Instrument & Controls Technician will suit someone with industrial electrical, instrumentation or controls maintenance experience who is confident working with equipment such as DCS, PLCs, turbine controls, motors, transformers, pumps, boilers and utility systems.
The Electrical, Instrument & Controls Technician / EI&C Technician / Controls Technician Role:
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment.
- Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspections, testing and calibration.
- Troubleshoot DCS, PLCs, turbine controls and related plant systems.
- Support electrical systems up to 12kV, including motors, transformers, switches, wiring and communications.
- Maintain maintenance, calibration and work order documentation through a CMMS.
- Monitor equipment, diagnose faults and recommend reliability improvements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs and equipment manuals.
- Follow plant safety procedures, including LOTO, PPE and safe working practices around high-voltage and chemical handling systems.
Electrical, Instrument & Controls Technician / EI&C Technician / Controls Technician Requirements:
- 2 plus years’ experience in electrical, instrumentation or controls maintenance.
- Power plant or industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Progress toward a Journeyman or Master Electrician License, an Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of AC/DC systems, electrical schematics, P&IDs and control logic.
- Experience with motors, pumps, turbines, generators, boilers, cooling towers or emissions control systems.
- Understanding of safety protocols for chemicals, rotating equipment, confined spaces and high-voltage systems.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
