Job Overview
The Facilities and Maintenance Assistant supports the Facilities and Maintenance Manager in maintaining safe, clean, functional, and welcoming environments across all Time for Change Foundation facilities, including shelters, housing units, administrative offices, classrooms, and program sites. This position performs routine maintenance, assists with facility inspections, supports inventory management, and helps ensure compliance with organizational safety standards.
The ideal candidate is dependable, service-oriented, hands-on, and committed to supporting TFCF's mission of empowering individuals and families through housing, workforce development, and supportive services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, painting, drywall repair, furniture assembly, and basic electrical work.
- Assist with preventive maintenance schedules and facility upkeep.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and document completed work.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down rooms for meetings, trainings, workshops, and special events.
- Support emergency maintenance needs as directed.
Daily Facility Operations
- Conduct routine inspections of TFCF facilities to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
- Assist with opening and closing facilities as assigned.
- Ensure facilities remain clean, organized, and operational throughout the day.
- Assist with monitoring HVAC, lighting, and building systems and report issues promptly.
Custodial Support
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness of common areas, offices, classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, and storage spaces.
- Support implementation of facility cleaning schedules.
- Coordinate with custodial staff and vendors as directed.
- Ensure facilities are presentable and welcoming for clients, staff, partners, and visitors.
Safety & Compliance
- Identify and report safety hazards immediately.
- Assist with fire extinguisher checks, emergency preparedness activities, and safety inspections.
- Support compliance with OSHA, ADA, local health, and fire safety regulations.
- Assist with maintaining facility safety logs and inspection records.
Inventory & Supplies
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance tools, cleaning supplies, and facility materials.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking supplies.
- Notify the Facilities and Maintenance Manager when supplies need replenishment.
- Maintain organized storage areas.
Vendor & Contractor Support
- Assist with coordinating access for vendors, contractors, inspectors, and service providers.
- Escort contractors when necessary and report completed work.
- Support documentation of maintenance services and repairs.
Vehicle Support
- Assist with routine vehicle inspections and cleanliness.
- Help maintain records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and service schedules.
- Report vehicle concerns to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
Additional Duties
- Assist with office and facility moves.
- Support special projects, facility improvements, and beautification efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of facilities, maintenance, janitorial, or related experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, maintenance equipment, and facility operations.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment safely.
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated areas when necessary.
- Ability to respond to facility emergencies when needed.
