Shipping & Logistics Manager
American Precision Engineering (APE)
Pflugerville, TX
Full-Time
About APE
American Precision Engineering is an advanced engineering and manufacturing company that designs and builds complex components, assemblies, tooling, and systems for customers in aerospace, defense, robotics, energy, and other high-tech industries.
Our work ranges from precision machined and fabricated components to complex prototypes and fully integrated systems. We work in a fast-paced, high-mix environment where quality, attention to detail, and execution matter.
We are looking for a Shipping & Logistics Manager to take ownership of the final stage of our manufacturing process and ensure everything leaving APE is accurate, properly documented, professionally packaged, and shipped on time.
The Role
This is not simply a position for someone who can print shipping labels and move boxes.
The Shipping & Logistics Manager is the final checkpoint between APE and our customers. You will be responsible for coordinating shipments, working within our ERP system, verifying orders and documentation, developing appropriate packaging solutions, and making sure high-value manufactured products reach our customers in the same condition they left our facility.
We need someone who is extremely detail-oriented, organized, comfortable with technology, and willing to take ownership of the entire shipping process.
If something doesn't look right, we expect you to notice it, investigate it, and resolve it before the product leaves the building.
What You'll Do
Shipping & Logistics
- Own the daily shipping schedule and ensure completed orders ship accurately and on time.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management to identify upcoming shipments.
- Verify part numbers, quantities, purchase order requirements, addresses, shipping methods, and customer requirements before shipment.
- Prepare packing slips, shipping labels, Bills of Lading, and other required shipping documentation.
- Coordinate UPS, FedEx, LTL, dedicated freight, and other transportation as required.
- Schedule freight pickups and communicate shipment and tracking information.
- Help identify potential shipping problems before they impact customer delivery dates.
Packaging
- Determine the appropriate packaging method based on the product's value, geometry, weight, fragility, surface finish, and transportation method.
- Package precision machined parts, fabricated components, painted and coated parts, and complex assemblies.
- Protect products from impact, abrasion, moisture, corrosion, contamination, and improper handling during transportation.
- Select and utilize appropriate boxes, foam, protective films, wrapping, blocking, bracing, pallets, and crates.
- Build or coordinate custom crates and specialized packaging when necessary.
- Develop repeatable packaging standards for common types of APE products.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shipping and packaging area.
ERP & Documentation
- Work extensively within APE's ERP system to process and document shipments.
- Ensure physical shipments accurately match ERP records.
- Record shipment dates, quantities, tracking information, and other required information accurately and promptly.
- Verify jobs have completed required manufacturing, inspection, and documentation steps before shipment.
- Identify discrepancies between the physical product, ERP system, purchase order, and shipping documentation.
- Maintain accurate records and traceability consistent with APE's AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
Final Verification
Before anything leaves APE, you will help verify:
- Correct customer
- Correct shipping address
- Correct part number
- Correct quantity
- Correct revision when applicable
- Correct shipping method
- Correct packaging
- Correct paperwork and documentation
- Required Certificates of Conformance, inspection reports, material certifications, FAIs, or other customer documentation when applicable
You will have the authority and responsibility to stop a shipment if something doesn't look right.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working with ERP, MRP, inventory management, warehouse management, or similar business software.
- Strong computer skills and comfort learning new software.
- Experience in shipping, logistics, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or a related environment.
- Ability to accurately work with part numbers, quantities, purchase orders, packing lists, and shipping documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Management.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Strong sense of personal ownership and accountability.
Preferred
- Experience in precision manufacturing, machining, fabrication, aerospace, defense, or another high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Experience packaging high-value or precision manufactured products.
- Experience with UPS, FedEx, LTL freight, dedicated freight, and freight scheduling.
- Experience building or specifying custom crates and protective packaging.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Familiarity with Certificates of Conformance, material certifications, inspection reports, and First Article Inspection documentation.
- International shipping experience is a plus.
You'll Be Successful Here If...
You are the type of person who notices that there are supposed to be 24 parts in a box but there are only 23.
You question a shipping address that doesn't match the purchase order.
You don't assume someone else updated the ERP system. You verify it.
You wouldn't put a $10,000 precision-machined assembly into a cardboard box with some bubble wrap and hope for the best.
You like organized workspaces, accurate records, clear processes, and knowing exactly what needs to ship today and what needs to ship tomorrow.
Most importantly, you take ownership.
At APE, shipping is not an afterthought. It is the customer's final impression of our manufacturing process. A beautifully manufactured product that arrives damaged, late, poorly packaged, or with incorrect paperwork is not acceptable.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in making sure that doesn't happen.

- Fast-paced environment with significant responsibility and autonomy
