Company Description Colesville Volunteer Ambulance Service (CVAS) serves the residents of Harpursville, NY, and surrounding communities with emergency medical care and transport services. The squad responds to 911 calls and provides on-site standby coverage for local events, supporting community safety and health. CVAS operates as a volunteer-based organization dedicated to timely, compassionate prehospital care. Team members work closely with other local emergency services and public safety officers to ensure coordinated response and high-quality patient support.
Role Description The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) supports CVAS operations by responding to 911 calls and providing prehospital emergency care to patients in a rural community. This part-time, on-site role involves assessing patients, delivering appropriate basic life support interventions, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with safe transport to medical facilities (roughly a 20-minute transport time). The EMT-B collaborates with other EMS personnel, follows established NYS protocols, completes accurate patient care reports, and maintains equipment and supplies on ambulances via daily rig checks. The role also includes participation in standbys at community events, ongoing training, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Qualifications (Not Required)
- Demonstrated skills in emergency medicine, including safe response, scene management, and patient care.
- Current NYS licensure welcomed but not required. We pay for your training!
- Foundational knowledge of science and medicine appropriate to EMT-B scope, including basic life support, anatomy & physiology, trauma care, and emergency management.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and move patients and equipment safely, work in variable weather conditions, and maintain composure in high-stress situations.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills; commitment to inclusive, respectful patient and community interactions.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training, drills, and community standby events; previous heath care/volunteer or EMS experience a plus.
- Desire to help people.
Pay: $18.50 per hour
