The Route/Delivery Driver supports the daily operations of the Lowcountry Food Bank Distribution Centers by safely picking up and delivering food and product to partner agencies, schools, and Regional Food Centers (RFCs). This role works closely with Transportation, Regional Food Center, and Operations leadership to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe deliveries, pick-ups, receiving, and warehouse operations.
This position requires operating food bank vehicles equipped with lift gates, maintaining food safety standards, and representing LCFB professionally in the community.
Pick up donated product from retail and donor routes and deliver food to agencies, schools, and Regional Food Centers
Perform and document pre- and post-trip inspections on food bank vehicles
Safely operate lift gates during deliveries and pick-ups
Ensure the safety of clients and partners during distributions and pick-ups
Stage and pull orders for dock loading and delivery
Load and unload route and transport vehicles
Assist with the safe, organized storage of food within the warehouse
Sort food and follow Feeding America salvage and food safety guidelines
Practice proper warehousing standards in accordance with the Feeding America Manual
Maintain clean and orderly warehouse spaces, vehicles, and grounds
Assist with opening and closing the warehouse as needed
Support the upkeep of LCFB vehicles and report maintenance issues or damage promptly
Execute all warehouse and vehicle safety protocols
Establish and maintain positive public relationships while representing the Lowcountry Food Bank
Promote teamwork and support the orderly operation of the Food Bank
Commit to and support the mission and goals of the Lowcountry Food Bank
Complete additional duties as assigned
High School Diploma or GED required
Valid South Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record
Minimum of 5 years of driving experience
Must be insurable under LCFB’s insurance policy and carry insurance on any personal vehicle used for work
Ability to pass DOT physical exam, background check, and DMV review
Willingness to undergo random drug screening
Proficiency in operating forklifts, electric pallet jacks, lift gates, and other warehouse equipment
Knowledge of food safety and salvage standards
Ability to safely operate food bank vehicles
Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with management and team members
Basic math and computer skills, including keyboarding
Ability to use GPS navigation
Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and follow-through
Flexible and adaptable with work hours
Reliable, self-motivated, and dependable with a strong work ethic
Ability to sit for extended periods (30 minutes to 2 hours) while driving
Ability to stand for extended periods (30 minutes to 1 hour) while unloading
Ability to lift 40–50 lbs. regularly and move heavy items (up to 3,000 lbs.) using proper equipment
