About the Role
Southwest Sports and Fitness Alliance (SSFA) is seeking a Recreation Activity Leader to oversee day-to-day logistics and operations for our after-school and community-based enrichment programs across Baltimore. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equitable access to safe, structured, and meaningful programming for youth by coordinating schedules, transportation, communication, and documentation.
The Recreation Activity Leader works across school and community sites, supporting families, coaches, volunteers, and school partners. Work hours may vary based on program needs and include afternoon and evening hours, with weekends required during peak programming seasons and special events.
This position is classified as hybrid, meaning a combination of administrative coordination and in-person support at multiple on-site and off-site program locations throughout Baltimore. Hybrid does not mean remote or work-from-home. The Recreation Activity Leader must be physically present at assigned sites during program hours, events, and activities.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage practice, game, and event schedules across multiple school and community sites
· Coordinate transportation logistics and support safe student arrivals and departures
· Communicate consistently with families, school liaisons, coaches, and volunteers via phone, email, and in person
· Support coaches with rosters, attendance tracking, and equipment needs
· Organize registration efforts and collect required participation forms and documentation
· Monitor participant attendance and enter data into SSFA systems
· Provide on-site supervision and problem-solving support during program hours
· Assist with volunteer coordination as needed
· Support implementation of youth sports, wellness, and enrichment programming
· Report regularly to Recreation Center Manager and escalate issues to Executive Director when appropriate
· Perform other duties as assigned to support SSFA programming, events, operations, and community initiatives
Qualifications
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail
· Basic computer literacy, including email, Google Sheets/Excel, and online forms
· Clear verbal and written communication skills
· Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
· High school diploma required; some college or equivalent experience preferred
· Reliable transportation and ability to travel between program sites
· Ability to lift approximately 20–50 pounds when moving equipment
Additional Requirements
- Ability to successfully pass a background check prior to hire
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by programming needs
Preferred Qualifications
· Minimum of 2–3 years of professional work experience in recreation, youth development, sports programming, coaching, or related fields
· Previous coaching experience strongly preferred
· Certifications within the sports, fitness, recreation, or youth development industries are a plus
· Experience working in community-based or nonprofit environments preferred
· Valid driver’s license
Work Environment
· Combination of administrative coordination and active, on-site program support
· Indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
· Evening and weekend hours during peak programming periods
· Local travel between partner sites throughout Baltimore (mileage reimbursement may apply)

$17–$18 per hour
