Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current coding guidelines.
- Ensure precise documentation of diagnoses and procedures for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or ambiguities in medical records.
- Utilize billing software and electronic health record (EHR/EHR) systems to accurately code and process insurance claims.
- Maintain compliance with health insurance policies, third-party billing requirements, and revenue cycle management protocols.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations, including ICD coding updates and medical terminology standards.
- Support the medical billing team by providing detailed coded data necessary for accurate insurance claim processing and medical collection efforts.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classifications.
- Proficiency in using billing software along with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and EHR systems for efficient coding and record management.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records documentation, and coding guidelines for inpatient services.
- Familiarity with health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management strategies.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of health insurance policies, claim submission processes, and the importance of accurate coding for reimbursement purposes.
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
