- Provide leadership in implementing planned initiatives that support the strategic direction of the Building Envelope group, including technical, project management, business development, and other company-wide opportunities.
- Offer day-to-day guidance to teams, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared and creative solutions are supported.
- Assist with finding, interviewing, hiring, and developing staff through mentorship and ongoing feedback.
- Proactively perform client outreach by leveraging existing client relationships. Collaborate with business development and marketing teams to prepare and review proposals.
- Apply architectural engineering principles and analytical methods to diagnose building envelope problems, including air and water infiltration, condensation, thermal radiation, and solar radiation issues.
- Implement standard operating procedures and create an atmosphere where incremental improvements are encouraged for continuous learning and enhancement.
- Oversee the quality of work on a personal level and implement quality assurance standards within the building envelope group.
- Support expert witness projects as needed, including preparing for and participating in depositions.
- Manage and oversee the business, ensuring deadlines and budget constraints are met.
- Stay updated on advancements in building envelope systems, energy codes, materials science, and forensic analysis.
- Possess experience with FGIA, AAMA, and ASTM exterior wall pre-qualification requirements for various materials and systems.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships within the Architectural/Engineering/Construction/Building Management community and other organizations to achieve business goals.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Structural Engineering required.
- Experience: 7 years of project experience in building envelope design, repair, and investigation. 5 years of experience in the New York market. 2 years managing direct reports.
- Licensure: Professional licensure is preferred, either a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of New York or a Registered Architect (RA) in the State of New York, with both licenses being a plus.
- Certifications (For NY candidates only): Experience with NYC Local Law 11 Facade Inspection Safety Program. Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) designation from the New York City Department of Buildings or ability to obtain QEWI within 12 months of start.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should be willing to provide examples during the interview process. A passion for working on challenging building envelopes, whether forensic investigations of exterior wall systems or collaborating with design architects on custom-designed/high-performing exterior wall systems, is an asset.
- Management: Experience managing budgets and schedules and leading projects requiring multiple disciplines to achieve project goals.
- Business Development: Track record of clients satisfied with project delivery. Fluent in proposal writing.
