Position Description
Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) seeks to fill the position of Community Enrichment Teaching Artist – Dallas or Fort Worth. TBT employs Community Enrichment ballet teaching artists to be enthusiastic ambassadors for the art form and professional representatives of the organization.Instructors must be able to instruct dance to students who do not have previous dance training or exposure to the art form.This individual will instruct classes in TBT’s CityDance and/or Dance Extension Programs. Our CityDance curriculum introduces ballet to young students across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, primarily 1st – 4th grades, in Title 1 schools and community organizations. The Dance Extension Program curriculum matches that of Texas Ballet Theater School and is delivered to elementary students during school hours in Dallas. This position is part-time and teaching artists must have access to reliable transportation. Community Enrichment teaching artists report to the Educational Programs Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Consistent availability during the hours of 3:00pm – 5:00pm for at least one day each week during the school year (Aug-May), with the potential for some hours during the school day or summer throughout the year.
· Follow CityDance curriculum to teach beginning ballet for up to 40 students for 1-hour class sessions
· Follow Texas Ballet Theater School curriculum for appropriate class level for up to 15 Dance Extension Program students for 1-hour class sessions during school hours
· Must be able to adapt teaching practices to accommodate non-traditional settings
· Assist with distributing and collecting waivers and other educational materials at each site
· Complete attendance and teaching summaries during and after each class session
· Ability to teach either in Dallas County or Tarrant County and its immediate surrounding areas, including Arlington, Grand Prairie, Seagoville, Mansfield, and more
· Attend all scheduled teacher meetings as requested
· Provide positive and healthy support for students, as a leader and a mentor
· Maintain a positive, disciplined environment for the students during their ballet class
Qualifications/required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in dance, education, or related field, or commensurate experience as a professional dancer is preferred.
- Enthusiastic about arts/dance education and working with youth in both traditional and non-traditional settings.
- At least two years of dance teaching experience preferred.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Multi-lingual, especially Spanish a plus.
- Will be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time; must be able to lift 25 pounds on occasion.
