Job Summary:
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems—including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and general infrastructure—across assigned Playhouse Square properties. This role combines hands on technical work with system diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and project support. The Maintenance Engineer also provides elevated technical expertise to support capital improvements, vendor oversight, and engineering operations. The role is critical in ensuring facilities remain well-maintained, operationally sound, and supportive of Playhouse Square’s mission and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Duties and Responsibilities:
MEP Systems Support
- Supports operation, inspection, and basic troubleshooting of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
- Assists with diagnostics, system adjustments, and reporting issues requiring advanced engineering or vendor support.
General Building Maintenance
- Performs skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing repairs, and minor mechanical tasks.
- Performs physical job duties such as climbing ladders, roof access, and moving equipment safely.
Lighting & Electrical Assistance
- Conducts weekly lighting inspections and replace lamps/fixtures as needed.
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Assists in maintaining an accurate and organized parts inventory.
- Updates and maintains manuals, diagrams, logs, and MSDS documentation.
- Supports completion of preventive maintenance tasks and correct deficiencies.
Tenant Support & Customer Experience
- Maintains positive and professional relationships with tenants, contractors, and staff.
- Responds to tenant needs promptly, including building issues and comfort complaints.
- Recommends operational improvements that enhance building performance.
Project & Capital Support
- Assists with building and tenant improvement projects.
- Supports suburban properties and cross campus‑ needs as assigned.
Emergency & After-hours Responsibilities
- Participate in after‑hours rotation, emergency call‑ins, and urgent response situations.
Required Skills/Attributes:
- Advanced working knowledge of building systems and maintenance procedures. (Elevated skill level)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify root causes of issues.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to safely perform physical work (ladders, roof access, carrying equipment).
- Basic computer skills; ability to use work order and documentation systems.
- Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Qualifications and Experience:
Required
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related technical trade. (Elevated scope from original)
- Strong general knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Preferred
- SMA Certification or Boiler License (highly preferred).
- Trade school, technical certification, or apprenticeships in mechanical, HVAC, electrical, or building systems.
- Experience in commercial or multi‑facility environments.
- Familiarity with maintenance software and digital documentation tools.
