Job Title: Soup Dumpling Steamer / Kitchen Team Member
Job Summary
Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings is looking for a reliable and efficient Soup Dumpling Steamer to join our kitchen team. This position is responsible for learning and recognizing all items on our steaming menu, understanding the correct steaming time for each item, and executing tickets accurately during busy service hours.
The ideal candidate can work quickly under pressure, stay organized, communicate well with the kitchen team, and consistently maintain our food quality and presentation standards.
Responsibilities
- Learn and accurately recognize all soup dumplings, buns, dim sum, and other steamed menu items.
- Follow the correct steaming time and preparation procedure for every item.
- Read, organize, and execute customer tickets accurately and in the correct order.
- Manage multiple orders efficiently during high-volume and peak service hours.
- Check each item for proper temperature, appearance, quality, and portion before serving.
- Communicate with food runners, expediters, and other kitchen stations to keep orders moving.
- Restock dumplings, liners, trays, and other station supplies throughout the shift.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary steaming station.
- Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Properly open, operate, clean, and close the steaming station.
- Notify a manager immediately of equipment problems, low inventory, or product-quality concerns.
- Assist with other kitchen duties when needed.
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, dim sum, or high-volume restaurant experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to learn menu items and steaming times quickly.
- Ability to read and execute tickets accurately.
- Able to remain calm, focused, and organized during busy hours.
- Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.
- Able to stand for extended periods and work safely around hot steam and kitchen equipment.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and peak business hours as scheduled.
