Connections Care Services is a supported living services provider that serves adults with developmental disabilities in a home setting. We are looking for highly dependable, motivated, compassionate individuals for the position of Direct Support Staff / Caregiver in the Tulare/Visalia area. Direct Support Staff play a vital role to assist individuals with intellectual, cognitive, or developmental disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence. In this vital role, you will assist individuals with daily activities, ensure their safety, and promote independence within a nurturing environment. Requirements: 18 years of age or older, high school diploma/GED, valid driver's license, clean DMV driving record, ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written), ability to handle physical aspects of job including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time. CPR/First Aid certification preferred but will be provided. Position may require flexibility in assignment of work locations.
Duties
- Assist clients with personal care tasks including bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, ambulation, toileting, medical monitoring, care related tasks, and mobility assistance
- Monitor individuals' baseline and observing for changes and reporting findings accurately
- Performing home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning
- Encouraging social and community activities
- Planning meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding and clean-up
- Transporting individuals, running errands, accompanying client to appointments
- Support medication administration and assistance following HIPAA guidelines and care plans
- Use specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts to safely transfer individuals
- Document individuals observations, care activities, and any incidents clearly and thoroughly in compliance with privacy regulations
- Provide companionship and emotional support to individuals, fostering a warm atmosphere
- Ensuring individuals safety and maintain a safe environment including deescalation of behaviors
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to implement personalized care plans for residents with dementia, autism, or other disabilities
Skills
- Experience in home health, assisted living, nursing homes, or group home settings preferred but not required
- Knowledge of patient care techniques including CPR, first aid, and medication administration
- Familiarity with working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia-related conditions
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts
- Strong observational skills for monitoring and recognizing changes in condition or behavior
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams
- Ability to follow detailed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations for privacy and confidentiality
- Experience in meal preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a safe environment for residents
- Compassionate attitude combined with patience when working with seniors or individuals with complex needs
