The Building People, LLC, has an opening for a Senior Energy Program Manager to lead and deliver energy management, auditing, and mechanical systems assessment support for federal clients. The Program Manager will oversee energy programs, coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, manage client communications, and ensure delivery of high-quality technical products aligned with federal energy mandates and agency priorities. The ideal candidate will bring senior-level experience supporting federal facilities, with Department of Defense or Department of War experience strongly preferred, and demonstrated success delivering ASHRAE Level II energy audits, mechanical system assessments, energy conservation measure identification, and implementation planning. Experience with smart building technologies, building automation systems, utility data analysis, and federal reporting requirements is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess at least 8 years of related energy, facilities, or engineering program experience.

Required Experience & Skills
Minimum of 8 years of experience managing or delivering energy, facilities, mechanical systems, or engineering programs.
Experience delivering ASHRAE Level II energy audits, including utility analysis, site investigation, energy conservation measure development, savings calculations, and audit reporting.
Experience performing mechanical system assessments for federal or large institutional facilities, including HVAC, central plants, building controls, and related infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client communications for energy or facility engineering programs.
Familiarity with federal energy mandates, reporting requirements, energy resilience priorities, and facility sustainability objectives.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, verbal communication, and technical writing skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools used for reporting, analysis, scheduling, and program management.
Team-oriented leader with the ability to coordinate engineers, analysts, building specialists, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
Preferred Experience & Skills
Experience supporting federal customers, with Department of Defense or Department of War experience strongly preferred.
Certified Energy Manager certification preferred.
Experience with smart building technologies, building automation systems, energy information systems, or facility performance analytics.
Experience developing training, briefings, dashboards, or executive-level reports on energy efficiency, resilience, risk mitigation, and sustainability topics.
Required Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Preferred Education
Certified Energy Manager certification preferred.
Professional Engineer license, LEED credential, or additional energy-related certifications are a plus.
Place of Performance & Travel
25 - 50% travel
The team is based in the Washington DC area, and the candidate will need to be able to attend an in-person meeting within a 2-day notice.
