Schedule: Monday to Friday (Day shift), Overtime availableJob SummaryWe are a premier underground utility contractor in the Charlotte area seeking permanent, full-time Utility Laborers to join our pipe-laying crews. We install water, sewer, and storm drain systems. We are looking for dependable individuals who want a long-term career in wet utilities. This is a year-round W2 position with consistent hours and overtime opportunities. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]Daily Responsibilities
- Assist the pipe layer and operator in installing water, sewer, and storm drain pipes.
- Hand-dig and spot existing utilities safely around heavy equipment.
- Prepare, level, and grade the bottom of trenches with bedding material.
- Handle, guide, and join various types of pipe, including PVC, DIP, and concrete.
- Clean pipe joints, apply gaskets, and use pipe lubricants properly.
- Set up and work safely inside trench boxes, shoring systems, and manholes.
- Operate compactor rams, quick-cut saws, and other utility hand tools. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 1–2 years of underground utility, pipe laying, or heavy civil construction experience preferred.
- Safety Knowledge: Basic understanding of OSHA trench safety, excavation rules, and hand signals for equipment operators.
- Transportation: Must have a valid reliable personal transportation to get to changing job sites around Charlotte.
- Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 75 lbs, work in deep trenches, and handle physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.
