The Ethical Society of Skokie is seeking enthusiastic and caring teachers to join our Children’s Program for the upcoming school year.
Our Sunday School provides children with a welcoming environment where they can learn, explore ethical ideas, build community, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Responsibilities
- Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and families.
- Be onsite from 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. on Sundays, September through the end of May.
- Implement weekly, pre-planned lessons and activities.
- Safely supervise children during outdoor activities and open play.
- Help facilitate our Community Activity Hour for children following classroom lessons.
- Maintain an organized classroom by completing weekly setup and cleanup procedures.
- Work collaboratively with fellow staff members and volunteers to create a positive experience for children and families.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in an educational setting and enthusiasm for working with children.
- Familiarity with principles of child development and learning.
- Willingness to develop a working understanding of Humanist culture, values, and the mission of the Ethical Society of Skokie.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and adjust activities as needed.
- Ability to work effectively alongside fellow staff and volunteers.
- Must successfully pass a background check and adhere to the Society’s Child Protection Guidelines and Code of Conduct.
- Must provide references who can speak to your experience working with children.
Compensation
Teachers will be paid $30 per hour, for a total of $60 per Sunday.
