Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Dermatology is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in an outpatient dermatology practice. This role supports medical and cosmetic dermatology services through direct patient care, procedural assistance, education, documentation, and collaboration with providers and clinical staff.
Depending on experience and practice needs, the RN may also provide clinical leadership support, including mentoring staff, assisting with workflow coordination, and reinforcing clinical best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support:
- Greet patients and escort them to examination rooms.
- Take patient medical histories, record vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, heart rate), and document any changes in patient health status.
- Prepare patients for dermatologic exams and procedures, ensuring that they are informed and medical consents are signed.
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and suture removals.
- Assist providers during dermatologic procedures, including but not limited to biopsies, excisions, laser treatments, and cosmetic servicesPerform wound care, dressing changes, and suture removals.
- Administer medications or injections under the supervision of a physician (e.g., local anesthetics, corticosteroid injections).
- Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for dermatology procedures.
- Communicate pathology, lab, and culture results to patients and provide appropriate education or clarification as needed, following provider’s instructions.
- Patient Education:
- Provide patients with post-procedure instructions and skincare guidance, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Educate patients on proper skincare, sun protection, and other dermatological concerns.
- Answer patient inquiries about treatments, procedures, and dermatological conditions.
- Administrative Support:
- Prepare and update patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Maintain accurate patient records, documenting consultations, treatments, and any observed results or side effects. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
- Assist with duties such as scheduling, patient intake, and inventory management when needed.
- Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for dermatology treatments and medications as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including exam rooms and medical supplies.
- Infection Control & Safety:
- Adhere to infection control protocols and OSHA safety procedures to maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
- Maintain proper sterilization procedures for instruments and equipment.
Qualifications:
License and Certifications:
- Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Tennessee.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Experience:
- Previous nursing experience in a dermatology, plastic surgery, or medical office setting is preferred.
- Experience assisting with dermatologic procedures and cosmetic treatments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with dermatological treatments, medications, and patient care protocols is a plus.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems; experience with ModMed a plus.
- Scribing experience is a plus.
- Experience with MOHS is a plus.

- Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday - Friday as well as some evenings and Saturdays as needed to accommodate patient appointments.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods during clinic hours
- Ability to assist patients during exams or procedures.
- Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies as needed.
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and administer treatments effectively.
