Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Design Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of commercial ice machines and refrigeration systems.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on product engineering experience, strong CAD capabilities, and practical knowledge of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, sheet metal design, and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop commercial cuber, flaker, nugget, pearl, and specialty ice-making equipment.
- Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Support new product development from initial concept through validation and production launch.
- Evaluate thermal performance, airflow, structural integrity, and refrigeration system efficiency.
- Integrate compressors, condensers, evaporators, water circulation components, and dispensing systems.
- Build, test, validate, and troubleshoot prototypes and production-ready equipment.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to reliability, energy efficiency, and product performance.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for production and field issues.
- Coordinate with suppliers on component design, development, testing, and qualification.
- Maintain technical reports, test procedures, engineering changes, and product documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable UL, NSF, CE, DOE, and refrigeration safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Three to seven years of product design, refrigeration, HVAC/R, or equipment engineering experience.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and airflow.
- Experience with sheet metal, plastics, fabrication, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DFM, DFA, and engineering change processes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing commercial refrigeration, foodservice, HVAC/R, or ice-making equipment.
- Knowledge of R290 or other environmentally responsible refrigerants.
- Familiarity with UL and NSF certification processes.
- Hands-on prototype development and testing experience.
- Experience with ERP or PDM systems.
