The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This professional role assumes clinical responsibility within the assigned facility and delivers physical therapy interventions in accordance with established plans of care, state practice acts, and facility policies. The PTA performs only those procedures for which they are qualified and trained and communicates all observations and recommendations to the supervising Physical Therapist.
Provide direct patient care by implementing the Physical Therapist’s established plan of care.
Instruct and assist residents with active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait training, functional mobility, ADLs, transfers, safety techniques, and prosthetic training as appropriate.
Observe, document, and report residents’ responses to treatment and any changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist, nursing staff, and/or physician as indicated.
Assist the Physical Therapist with procedures, tests, and complex treatments to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
Participate in care coordination and interdisciplinary communication regarding resident progress and therapy needs.
Educate residents, families, caregivers, and care team members on therapeutic activities and techniques to support functional improvement.
Complete daily treatment notes and documentation for each visit in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
Adhere to Therapy Standards of Practice, infection control protocols, and safety policies.
Follow all state-specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy services and maintain compliance with facility policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Current Washington State Physical Therapist Assistant license.
CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Proficient with clinical documentation and basic computer skills.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow established plans of care and work collaboratively under Physical Therapist supervision.
