POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of a Crew Leader or Highway Crew Foreperson, performs semi skilled and manual labor in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of public roads, storm drainage systems, other public properties, and all Public Works projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receives oral or written work order from Supervisor who reviews work in progress.
- Operates dump trucks, powered construction machinery and related equipment including compaction rollers of less than 3 tons.
- Performs snow removal with or without the use of snowplows; operates material or chemical spreaders of less than 4 cubic yards and loads or unloads trucks.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled call-outs/overtime as needed for emergency situations.
- Performs installation, repair and inspections of equipment, facilities and other infrastructure (such as roads, underground lines) found in a municipal setting.
- Performs heavy manual labor in the moving, transporting, lifting, or applying of supplies and/or other materials on project sites.
- Performs heavy manual labor in the removal of trees, debris and roadside litter.
- Follows standard safety procedures and regulations.
- Meets and/or exceeds customer expectations with an unparalleled commitment to excellent customer service and positively promoting and enhancing the services and programs offered by the Town.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school or technical school education; and
- One (1) or more years of experience within the previous five (5) years of general construction experience in storm drainage, road maintenance, snow plowing and other duties associated with Public Works projects
License or Certificate: A valid class “B” Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License.
