Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our dynamic eye care team. Duties
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking accurate vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry, tonometry devices, and ophthalmic cameras to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning
- Assist with eye refraction procedures and preliminary assessments to support the optometrist’s examination process
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient information at all times
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) efficiently, ensuring accurate documentation of patient data, exam results, and treatment notes
- Support patient intake processes by verifying insurance information, updating medical histories, and explaining procedures clearly
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment using aseptic techniques during procedures involving medical equipment or patient contact
- Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions, ensuring comfort, and facilitating a positive experience during visits
Requirements
- Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred
- Knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic procedures such as tonometry, eye refraction, and visual acuity testing
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing patient records efficiently
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to ophthalmology and physiology of the eye
- Ability to operate medical equipment safely and accurately while maintaining clinical confidentiality protocols
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient interaction and team collaboration
- Experience with retail sales or optical sales is a plus but not required; a basic understanding of optical products is beneficial
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while multitasking across various responsibilities including pediatrics when needed
