Child and Family Specialist Job Description
A Better Chance for Our Children provides foster care and adoption services throughout Delaware. This position is based in Milford and requires travel throughout Kent County and Sussex County. However, the caseload will primarily focus on Kent County.
The Child and Family Specialist’s role is to support all adoption and foster care services provided by the agency. A successful Child and Family Specialist possesses strong writing and organizational skills; the position involves writing very detailed, lengthy reports on children and families. To keep track of a variety of responsibilities, the following skills are an asset: very strong organizational skills, precise documentation and record-keeping, and the ability to work independently.

Education: Applicants have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. A master’s degree is preferred. Degrees MUST be in social work or the related human services fields of child welfare, counseling, psychology, child psychology, family studies, or sociology.
Other: Valid driver’s license and background check required.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides adoption, foster care, and post-adoption services.
2. Conducts home or office visits with families, children, or other professionals.
3. Coordinates or attends casework conferences with clients and outside agencies.
4. Prepares comprehensive reports for children and families.
5. Communicates regularly with assigned supervisor, outside referral agencies, clients, and private or governmental human service agencies regarding transactions, change of status, or other actions regarding active or inactive cases.
6. Prepares and submits correspondence, activity records, reports, billing, and documents for management information and government compliance on all cases.
7. Makes regular visits to families for supervision.
8. Testifies in court or at child review hearings as required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
