Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will oversee the comprehensive assessment and documentation of patient care needs within skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care settings. Your expertise will ensure accurate completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments, which are essential for quality care planning, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough MDS assessments in accordance with federal and state regulations, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, therapy, social work, and medical staff to gather comprehensive patient information.
- Review medical records, clinical documentation, and care plans to verify data accuracy and completeness.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth to document assessments and update patient records efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
- Participate in quality assurance activities related to clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and utilization management initiatives.
- Stay current with changes in coding standards such as ICD-10/ICD-9, CPT coding, DRG assignments, and Medicare requirements to optimize reimbursement processes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with MDS coordination in skilled nursing facilities or similar inpatient/outpatient settings.
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation review, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare coding systems including ICD-10/ICD-9, CPT, and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks or Athenahealth is highly preferred.
- Experience working within managed care environments and understanding Medicare/Medicaid regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assessments simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and ensure accurate documentation.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
