Job Description: The Skills Instructor assists in oversight and support for individuals served in the Dimensions (Day) program. The role involves teaching, training, and encouraging adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible by developing, increasing, or maintaining skills.
Essential Duties:
- Assess client interest and skills.
- Assist clients to exhibit appropriate behaviors in community.
- Maintain ongoing assessments of client performance.
- Track consumer objectives.
- Write reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain regular communication with Program Director regarding Client’s activities.
- Work with other staff in providing continuity in all aspects of the program.
- Assist clients in developing skills in the following areas:
- Community integration
- Social recreation/leisure skills
- Vocational Skills
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Shopping in natural environments
- Food preparations
- Money skills
- Personal health and hygiene
- Use of community resources
- Home and community safety
- Diaper changing
- Toileting
- Driving consumers to community outings
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Our Dimensions Program is designed to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities to become active members of their community. Individuals learn independence and work-related skills through regularly scheduled volunteer work, community projects and other educational programs. Villa’s program is designed to help each person reach their greatest potential in all areas of their life and to be successful in their community.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM (35hrs/week)
Compensation: $19.00/hour
Requirements:
- High school or GED Diploma
- Experience assisting special needs individuals; 1 year.
- Satisfactorily complete a fingerprinting clearance, physical & TB screenings.
