The Roslyn Cooperative Day School (The Co-op) is seeking a passionate, experienced, and collaborative Nursery School Director to lead our warm and vibrant community-based preschool. The Director will oversee the educational, operational, and administrative functions of the school while fostering a nurturing, play-based, and child-centered environment for students, families, and staff alike. This leadership role calls for a dynamic individual who can guide curriculum and staff development, support meaningful family engagement, ensure regulatory compliance, and work closely with our parent-run board and committees to help our school community continue to grow and thrive.
Key Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of school leadership, operations, and community engagement, including:
- Program & Curriculum Leadership: Lead the Co-op’s play-based curriculum, enrichment and summer programs while ensuring developmentally appropriate practices and thoughtful support for children with diverse learning needs.
- Staff Leadership & Development: Recruit, mentor, and support teachers and staff through ongoing feedback, evaluation, regular staff meetings, and a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
- Family Engagement & Community Building: Build strong relationships with families through communication, community events, and parent education initiatives.
- Board & Committee Collaboration: Partner with the parent-led Board of Directors and committees, serving as a collaborative liaison between school leadership, teachers, and families.
- Operations & Compliance: Oversee daily operations, including licensing, health and safety, budgeting, scheduling, facilities, and compliance with OCFS and NYSED regulations.
- Professional Involvement: Engage with the early childhood education community through professional networks, research, and representation of the Co-op.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field required
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred
- Significant experience in early childhood education, including leadership and administrative experience
- Strong understanding of OCFS and NYSED regulations and compliance requirements
- Proven ability to build inclusive, high-performing school cultures where staff feel supported and empowered
- Experience with curriculum planning, instructional leadership, and developmentally appropriate practices
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- CPR and First Aid certification required, or willingness to obtain upon hire
Salary & Benefits
- Annual salary of $70,000
- Fifteen days of paid time off annually
