Elementary Special Education Coordinator position works in two elementary schools. DESE licensure as a Special Education Administrator is required. JOB GOAL: To effectively supervise, serve as liaison for, and insurecompliance with the special education processPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: EVALUATION AND PLACEMENT1. Oversee the monitoring, implementation, and compliance ofrequired special education procedures per state and federalregulations.2.
Ensure that special education programs, including location andclass size, and related procedures comply with SpecialEducation Regulations.3. Oversee and facilitate special education instructional andstudent activities such as state testing, inclusive teachingpractices, transition programming and preparation.4. Assist in the transition of district special education studentsto/from hospitals, Department of Children and Familiesfacilities, Department of Youth Services and other educationalinstitutions. SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP 5.
Provide supervision, consultation, coordination and oversightto personnel assigned to the Special Education Department.6. Assist Principal and Director of Pupil Personnel Services inthe supervision of, and contribute to the evaluation of, specialeducation teachers. Complete observations as assigned and inaccordance with teacher contracts.7. With building and central office administration, plan andimplement programs for staff development and in-servicetraining for special and regular education staff.8.
With building and central office administration, advise on,plan and implement new programs for children withdisabilities REPORTS/MANDATES: 9. Ensure department and student records are maintained andkept current.10. Ensure, monitor and report on compliance as requested by theDirector of Pupil Personnel Services.11. Ensure that all legal timelines are followed.12.
Review/proof all IEPs and related documents forlegal/educational soundness.13. Ensure all proper paperwork is in place prior to Team meetingand oversee all paperwork required post Team meeting to besure it arrives, on time, in Pupil Personnel Services Office.14. Schedule and chair Team meetings for all annual reviews,initial evaluations, reevaluations, and reconvenings of theTeam in conjunction with all contact persons. LIAISON: 15.
Participate as a member of Instructional Support Teams, whenappropriate.16. Collaborate with building principal to ensure procedural rightsof students and parents are implemented. Collaborate on allneeds related to students with special needs.17. Serve as liaison and consultant to parents, special educationstaff, regular education staff, ELE staff, buildingadministration, central office administration, communityagencies, educational collaborative, and related service staff.
RECRUITMENT: 18. Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and recommendation ofpersonnel for the special education programs as requested byadministration. OTHER: 19. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services may assign.20.
