Job type: Full-time
Compensation: Up to $140,000 per year, depending on experience
Location: Oklahoma City or Tulsa, Oklahoma
Position Overview
A growing heavy civil construction company is hiring an Estimator or Senior Estimator for its Oklahoma operations. Candidates may be based in either the Oklahoma City or Tulsa area.
The position level will be determined by experience. The company will consider both a developing Estimator with solid heavy civil experience and a seasoned Senior Estimator capable of independently leading complex bids and supporting preconstruction strategy.
Projects may include asphalt paving, concrete paving, earthwork, grading, site development, underground utilities, drainage, roadway and highway construction, and related civil infrastructure work.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed, competitive estimates from initial plan review through final bid submission.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for asphalt, concrete, earthwork, grading, stabilization, drainage, underground utilities, and related civil scopes.
- Review plans, specifications, geotechnical information, addenda, bid documents, and contract requirements.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, trucking, subcontractor, and production assumptions.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Coordinate with operations and project management to validate construction methods, crew assumptions, production rates, schedules, equipment needs, and project logistics.
- Prepare bid summaries, clarifications, exclusions, scope reviews, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, bid reviews, and project handoff meetings.
- Maintain historical cost information, production data, estimating files, and bid results.
- Support conceptual estimates, negotiated work, budgets, and change-order pricing.
- For senior-level candidates: lead complex estimates, help establish bid strategy, mentor junior estimators, and support pursuit planning and client relationships.
Qualifications
- At least three years of construction estimating experience for Estimator-level consideration.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible heavy civil estimating experience preferred for Senior Estimator-level consideration.
- Estimating experience involving asphalt or concrete paving, roadway or highway construction, earthwork, site development, drainage, underground utilities, or related heavy civil work.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, bid schedules, and construction documents.
- Knowledge of labor productivity, equipment utilization, trucking, materials, subcontractor pricing, and heavy civil construction methods.
- Experience with digital quantity takeoff and estimating software.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, Excel, AutoCAD, Primavera P6, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- DOT, municipal, roadway, or public infrastructure estimating experience is strongly preferred.
- A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required with strong relevant experience.
What the Company Is Looking For
The company wants an estimator who understands how heavy civil work is actually built—not someone who simply completes quantity takeoffs. The strongest candidates can connect quantities, crews, equipment, production rates, trucking, materials, schedules, and project risks into complete and defensible estimates.
Benefits
A competitive benefits package is expected to include medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and other company-sponsored benefits. Specific plan details will be provided during the interview process.
Location
Candidates may work from the company’s Oklahoma City or Tulsa operation. Local candidates are preferred, although relocation may be discussed with highly qualified candidates.
