Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary orthodontic instruments, materials, and equipment to ensure smooth clinical operations.
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings with precision and professionalism.
- Take and develop dental x-rays, including intraoral and panoramic images, adhering to infection prevention protocols.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Ortho2 Edge or Open Dental, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices to promote optimal treatment outcomes.
- Sterilize dental instruments following strict infection control procedures, maintaining aseptic technique at all times.
- Maintain knowledge of dental terminology, general dentistry practices, pediatric dentistry considerations, and specialized orthodontic procedures including oral surgery and prosthodontics.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with experience in chairside assisting within an orthodontic setting.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Ortho2 Edge or Open Dental for efficient patient data management.
- Knowledge of infection prevention management, dental sterilization procedures, and aseptic technique to ensure clinical safety.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including 3D scanners, X-ray machines, and medical imaging devices accurately.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and clinical confidentiality policies aligned with HIPAA standards.
- Experience in pediatric dentistry is advantageous for managing younger patients effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact compassionately with patients of all ages while providing clear instructions on treatment plans.
- Ability to perform dental instrument processing efficiently while adhering to infection control protocols for general dentistry and specialized orthodontic procedures like endodontics or oral surgery.
