As a growing company pursuing strategic expansion, we are seeking a seasoned Sales Engineer who can bridge technical expertise with consultative selling to deliver tailored solutions that solve complex dust collection challenges.
Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Sales Engineer with a strong background in industrial air pollution control, dust collection systems, or related engineered equipment. In this role, you will work directly with plant engineers, maintenance managers, EHS professionals, and decision-makers at the manufacturing facilities (and other industrial sites) to identify needs, develop technical proposals, and close multi-hundred-thousand-dollar custom system projects.
You will combine deep product and application knowledge with relationship-building skills to become a trusted advisor. This is a hunter role with significant autonomy, supported by strong internal engineering, design, and service teams. Expect 15-25% travel with opportunities to shape our growth in key markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Consultative Selling & Needs Analysis: Conduct on-site assessments and virtual consultations to understand clients’ dust collection challenges, including airflow requirements, combustible dust hazards (NFPA/FDA compliance), sanitation standards, space constraints, and integration with existing process lines.
- Technical Solution Development: Collaborate with internal engineering to design custom systems (pulse-jet baghouses, cartridge collectors, pleated bag units, cyclones, explosion protection, etc.). Prepare detailed proposals, review drawings, P&IDs, performance guarantees, and ROI analyses.
- Project Quoting & Negotiation: Develop accurate, competitive quotations; negotiate terms, contracts, and pricing while protecting margins. Manage the full sales cycle from lead to close.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain long-term relationships with key accounts (existing and new). Provide ongoing technical support, conduct training sessions, and identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities for parts, service, and system upgrades.
- Market & Application Expertise: Stay current on industry regulations (OSHA, NFPA, FDA, FM Global), emerging technologies in dust collection, and trends in processing industries. Represent CPE Filters at trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain a robust sales pipeline using CRM tools. Generate new leads through networking, referrals, cold outreach, and targeted marketing support.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with Manufacturing Representatives, design engineers, project managers, installation teams, and service technicians to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
- Reporting: Provide accurate forecasts, activity reports, and market intelligence to leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in - Mechanical Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field (required). PE license or equivalent a plus.
Experience:
- 10+ years of proven technical sales experience in dust collection, air filtration, Industrial HVAC, process equipment, or industrial capital equipment.
- Strong preference for candidates with direct experience in process industries, equipment handling, or combustible dust applications.
- Demonstrated success closing $250K–$2M+ engineered system projects.
Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of baghouse design, pulse cleaning systems, fan/blower sizing, ductwork, explosion venting/suppression, and HEPA filtration.
- Familiarity with CFD modeling, pressure drop calculations, and system integration is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills—able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with CRM software (HubSpot), Microsoft Office Suite, and basic CAD/drawing review.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
