American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry/Stepdown position at a Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring strong stepdown skills including drip titration and cardiac rhythm interpretation.

Cardiac Telemetry/Stepdown unit (6N PCU) within an acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center
-
36-bed unit caring for cardiac patients including post-cath, AMI, post-PCI, post-op lung surgeries, respiratory failure, chest tubes, and pacemaker patients
-
Higher acuity than a typical telemetry unit; stepdown-level RN experience strongly preferred
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 for PCU acuity; 1:5 for MedSurg/Tele acuity (1:6 only in rare discharge-anticipated situations)

RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrilin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg)

No arterial lines or sheath pulls performed on this unit

Phillips telemetry monitors in use; monitor techs are available, but RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac strips

CPAP and BiPap present on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy

Epic EMR used for charting

CNAs are available with a target ratio of 1 CNA per 9 patients; team nursing model pairs 1 RN with 1 CNA for 6–7 patients

Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does

12-hour shifts, 7a–7p and 7p–7a
-
Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shift

Floating to other MedSurg/Tele units may be required
-
13-week contract

Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS certification (AHA)
-
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; stepdown or PCU experience strongly preferred
-
Proficiency in drip titration (cardiac and vasoactive medications) is required
-
Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
-
EKG testing is required for this PCU/Stepdown unit and must be passed prior to placement
-
A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
-
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
-
Candidates must provide 2 references: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

If the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that permanent employer

Royal blue scrubs are required

Artificial/false nails are not permitted

Holidays are worked on a rotating schedule shared with permanent staff

Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying

Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; a 2-year break is required once that threshold is reached
