Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Correctional Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team within a correctional facility. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth.
- Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and medication management for acute pain, chronic conditions, or specialized treatments like botulinum toxin therapy.
- Perform wound care procedures such as suturing and ostomy care while maintaining aseptic technique to prevent infections.
- Manage emergency situations by providing critical care interventions, airway management, and triage for urgent health issues within the correctional environment.
- Coordinate diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, processing, and interpretation of results; utilize diagnostic tools like sonography or radiology reports when necessary.
- Document all patient interactions meticulously in compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies, ensuring accurate medical records management.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers across specialties such as ophthalmology, geriatrics, behavioral health, infectious disease care, and trauma medicine to deliver holistic patient care tailored to individual needs.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN or LPN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are preferred.
- Proven experience in acute care settings such as hospital medicine, ICU, emergency room, or trauma centers; experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care is highly valued.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding and medical documentation standards.
- Strong clinical skills including IV insertion, phlebotomy, catheterization, tube feeding management, and infection control practices.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and assessments confidently in a secure environment; experience with triage and urgent care procedures is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law, hospice & palliative medicine principles, and long-term care practices including nursing home or assisted living experience.
- Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced setting; compassionate approach when working with diverse populations including children and seniors.
