DT's mission is to move clients off the path of emergency care to one where they can grow, learn, and flourish by emphasizing economic, social, and mental empowerment through comprehensive educational, financial, and health programs, as well as housing solutions. Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and proactive Shift Supervisors to serve as on-site leaders within our residential programs. In this role, you will help ensure the safety and well-being of residents, coordinate daily operations, provide direct support services, and foster a welcoming environment where clients can thrive.
Under the general direction of the Operations Coordinator and/or Assistant Shelter Director, with some latitude for independent judgment, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of Residential Aides in providing direct support to clients in adhering to shelter rules and regulations, as well as performing related duties as assigned.
What You'll Do
- Depending on the assigned shift, the Shift Supervisor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides guidance and direction to Residential Aides to ensure adequate coverage for each shift, monitors performance, and initiates corrective or administrative action when necessary.
- Conducts staff training through on-site instruction and referrals to external training resources.
- Oversees overall facility operations, including responding to emergencies and crisis situations during their shift.
- Provides orientation to new arrivals, including explaining shelter rules and regulations, conducting facility tours, assigning lockers and beds, and distributing basic supplies such as linens, towels, and toiletries.
- Participates in daily meetings and shares observations regarding client behavior that may support Case Manager follow-up.
- Oversees scheduled linen removal by Residential Aides, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed and linens are appropriately prepared for vendor pickup.
- Assists in the cafeteria during meal service (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as needed.
- Supports clinical staff during evening and weekend shifts in assisting clients with medication access and addressing client concerns.
- Ensures all incidents are documented in the logbook, with priority incidents immediately reported to the Shelter Director, Assistant Shelter Director, Operations Coordinator, and DHS, followed by timely written documentation.
- Provides escort services or ensures escorts are provided for clients as requested by Case Managers.
- Participates in recreational activities and encourages client engagement to promote positive outcomes.
- Distributes MetroCards received from Social Services staff to clients as needed.
- Supervises a team of Residential Aides.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with underserved populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental health challenges, and LGBTQIA+ communities
- 1+ year of supervisory experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
Certificates & Credentials
- F-80 Certificate of Fitness required
- Food Handler Certificate (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment) required
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Narcan Certification
- All required certifications must be obtained within 15 days of completion of training
