Salary : $120,000 — $150,000
Bonus : OTE = $190,000 – $220,000
Position Summary
The Commercial Department Manager oversees all operations within the commercial roofing division, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably. This role involves managing project managers, estimators, superintendents, and field crews while maintaining strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal departments. The Commercial Department Manager drives performance, monitors budgets, enforces quality standards, and ensures that the department aligns with company goals and customer satisfaction expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the commercial roofing department.
- Manage and mentor department staff including project managers, estimators, foremen, and field crews.
- Review project budgets, schedules, and contracts to ensure profitability and adherence to company standards.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, building codes, and manufacturer specifications.
- Coordinate with sales, accounting, and operations departments for smooth project delivery.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delay, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct regular job site visits to ensure quality control and safety compliance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Lead departmental meetings and report on performance metrics to executive leadership.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training new team members.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and technologies to keep the department competitive.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial roofing, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems (TPO, PVC, EPDM, Modified Bitumen, Metal, etc.).
- Proven ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of budgets and job costing
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work safely on or around job sites when needed.

Daily Duties

- Review and approve estimates and bids to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with company profit margins.
- Assist in estimating large or complex projects and provide guidance on pricing strategies, scope, and material selection.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and performance to maintain profitability and adherence to contract requirements.
- Conduct job site visits to ensure quality workmanship, adherence to specifications, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Collaborate with sales, accounting, and operations teams to coordinate workflow, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors to promote repeat business.
- Lead departmental meetings and performance reviews, providing updates to executive leadership on key metrics and challenges.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the department.
