Doane University, a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences university in Crete, Nebraska, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History starting in the 2027-2028 academic year. This position begins August 16, 2027.
Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours of on-ground undergraduate courses each semester. The position may also teach select courses online, subject to the needs of the institution. The department is seeking a generalist with the ability to teach World and European history courses. The area of specialization is open.
This position will be responsible for introductory courses in world history and advanced courses with a focus on topics such as the history of the ancient world, military history, and country-specific, regional, or broader world history. Candidates may develop courses in their area of expertise as well. The opportunity to teach the program’s gateway and capstone courses, Introduction to Historical Methods and the Writing and Research Seminar, is also possible. During the Fall semester, the position has the opportunity to develop a course in Doane’s LAR 101 First Year Seminar program, with the topic to be chosen by the faculty member.
