Job Title – Health Services Team Leader
Supervised by/Reports to: Health Services Coordinator
Supervises: Assigned Health Services personnel (e.g., school nurses or other designated staff)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Goals:
- To provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of school-based health services within an assigned feeder pattern or functional area, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and student-centered health services that support student safety, wellness, and readiness to learn.
Qualifications:
- Possess and maintain a valid license from the Alabama Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse .
- Relevant licensure or certification in a health or education-related field.
- Possess and maintain CPR certification; BLS certification.
- Demonstrated experience in school health services, healthcare, or a related field.
- Knowledge of coordinated school health principles, population health, and student support services.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to student health and safety.
- Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform program improvement.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Ability to plan and deliver professional development and training.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in technology for communication, data management, and reporting.
- Ability to travel between schools and district sites; possess and maintain active Alabama driver’s license.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
- Physical and emotional ability to perform required duties.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system’s vision, goals, and priorities.
- Provides supervisory oversight and support to assigned health services personnel.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individuals and health services programs across assigned schools or areas.
- Promotes a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the department.
- Assists in staffing coordination and coverage decisions to ensure student needs are met.
- Supports onboarding and ongoing development of health services staff.
- Supports implementation of student health plans (e.g., IHPs, 504 plans, IEP-related health services) in collaboration with school teams.
- Complete student home visits when necessary.
- Serves as a resource to school personnel regarding student health needs and accommodations.
- Promotes safe and effective health practices within schools.
- Assists with complex or high-risk student health situations as needed.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Board policies related to health services.
- Supports implementation of health services procedures and protocols.
- Assists in monitoring documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting for accuracy and compliance.
- Supports adherence to mandated reporting requirements and student protection laws.
- Identifies potential risks and works proactively to address them.
- Coordinates and delivers education as needed for school staff and health services personnel.
- Promotes evidence-based practices and current standards in school health services.
- Serves as a liaison between schools, district departments, families, and community partners.
- Collaborates with administrators, counselors, social workers, and other stakeholders to support student needs.
- Communicates effectively with staff, leadership, and external agencies.
- Responds to concerns, inquiries, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
- Assists in the collection, analysis, and reporting of Health Services data.
- Uses data to identify trends, inform decision-making, and improve services.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assists with coordination of health screenings, emergency preparedness efforts, and system-wide initiatives.
- Supports inventory, equipment management, and resource allocation as assigned.
- Serves on committees, task forces, district, and community initiatives as required.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates sound professional judgment.
- Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in addressing challenges and opportunities.
- Adheres to school system policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Reports absences and follows leave procedures in accordance with Board policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Health Services Coordinator.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position in accordance with the Board’s salary schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
