Caregiver / Direct Care Staff (RCFE)

Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and professional caregivers to provide high-quality care and support to elderly residents in a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE). Caregivers assist residents with activities of daily living, promote dignity and independence, ensure resident safety, and contribute to a warm, respectful, and supportive living environment.
The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, reliable, and committed to enhancing the quality of life of seniors while maintaining compliance with RCFE TITLE 22 regulations and facility policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Resident Care:
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Personal hygiene
- Toileting and incontinence care
- Ambulation and mobility assistance
- Transferring residents safely using proper techniques
- Encourage and promote resident independence whenever possible.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Assist residents with eating and hydration as needed.
- Monitor residents for changes in physical, emotional, or mental condition and report concerns promptly.
Medication Assistance:
- Assist with medication administration as permitted by RCFE TITLE 22 regulations and facility policies.
- Document medication assistance accurately and timely.
- Report medication errors, refusals, or adverse reactions immediately.
Resident Safety:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
- Conduct regular resident safety checks.
- Follow infection control and universal precaution procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, and resident incidents.
- Follow emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures.
Documentation:
- Complete accurate and timely documentation of:
- Resident care provided
- Medication assistance
- Incident reports
- Behavioral observations
- Shift notes and communication logs
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
Housekeeping and Facility Support:
- Perform light housekeeping duties including:
- Laundry
- Bed making
- Cleaning resident rooms and common areas
- Dishwashing and kitchen sanitation
- Assist with meal preparation and serving as assigned.
- Ensure facility cleanliness and organization standards are maintained.
Resident Engagement:
- Encourage participation in social, recreational, and wellness activities.
- Foster positive relationships with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
- Treat all residents with dignity, respect, patience, and compassion.
Team Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Attend staff meetings and required trainings.
- Follow all RCFE regulations, company policies, and resident care plans.
- Assist coworkers when necessary to ensure quality resident care.
Qualifications Required:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and meet RCFE employment requirements.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays.
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.
Preferred:
- Previous caregiving, assisted living, RCFE, memory care, home care, skilled nursing, or healthcare experience.
- Experience caring for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
- Medication Technician experience or training.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Assist residents with transfers and mobility.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequently.
- Respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Perform physically demanding caregiving duties throughout the shift.
