Responsibilities
- Assist patients via incoming phone calls and return messages, take patient payments.
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy for billing purposes
- Assign appropriate diagnosis codes using ICD-9 or ICD-10 coding systems, along with procedural codes such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes
- Prepare and submit insurance claims efficiently through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, perform medical collections, and resolve billing discrepancies promptly
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, adjustments, and patient communications
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues that may affect reimbursement
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications
- Experience with medical billing processes, including claim submission and follow-up procedures
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record management
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and medical records management
- Ability to interpret insurance policies and perform effective medical collections
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards and documentation requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
