Opened in 1986, New Horizons Village is a welcoming apartment complex, offering adults with physical disabilities the opportunity for self-directed living. We are located on 26 picturesque acres in a quiet residential neighborhood in the Farmington Valley. The village is just twenty minutes southwest of Hartford.
New Horizon’s mission is to provide affordable housing, accessible transportation, other support services, short-term and outpatient medical rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing in supportive communities of care and enable seniors, adults with disabilities and individuals facing challenges to achieve their goals and live life as independently and joyfully as possible.
General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Transportation Manager supports the daily operations of transportation services for New Horizons Village, including social/recreational transport, NEMT services through Sunshine Wheels, and community transportation assignments. This role ensures smooth scheduling, communication, documentation, and operational support to maintain safe, efficient, and customer‑focused transportation services.
Requirements

Current CT Public Service License with endorsement F, S, V, or A, in good standing, with the ability to drive a van when needed.

Experience supporting transportation operations, including scheduling, dispatching, or coordinating trips.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Calendar, Excel, OneDrive).

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Basic knowledge of ADA compliance, DOT/DMV regulations, and livery requirements (or willingness to learn).

Familiarity with scheduling/dispatch software and transportation technology systems preferred.

Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to work occasional hours outside the normal schedule as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with daily transportation scheduling, including NEMT, social/recreational trips, and community transport assignments.

Support dispatching functions, including tracking vehicles, communicating with drivers, and monitoring trip progress.

Provide backup driving support when needed due to staffing shortages or unexpected circumstances.

Assist with fleet management tasks, including vehicle inspections, maintenance tracking, and reporting issues.

Help ensure transportation operations follow safety guidelines, ADA requirements, DOT/DMV regulations, and internal policies.

Support the Transportation Operations Manager in collecting data, preparing reports, and monitoring performance indicators.

Assist with training new drivers, including orientation to policies, procedures, and safety expectations.

Participate in Safety Committee Meetings if Transportation Manager is unable to attend.

Help investigate minor service issues, complaints, or operational concerns and report findings to the Manager.

Maintain open communication with drivers, tenants, and administrative staff to support smooth operations.

Assist with recommendations for equipment needs, vehicle replacements, or operational improvements.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager or Village Manager.
