The Hume and Mansfield Labs study DNA damage and cancer, and the links between the gut and chronic disease. The position starts in Summer 2026 and may be renewed for a second year, based on funding availability. The Research Assistant will contribute to data collection, processing, visualization, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of results. The position will also include other experimental and research support.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biomedical Science or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; Will require Basic computer skills (MS Office, Email, WWW searches and data analysis programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Will be required to take the necessary training courses at MSU in animal handling and care, chemical waste and other general laboratory safety courses
- Research experience using basic molecular techniques including but not limited to but not limited to protein, RNA, and DNA extraction; real-time PCR; mammalian cell culture; cell-function assays; ELISA; flow cytometry; immunofluorescence staining and microscopy
