Alegria Montessori School is seeking a Reading and Writing Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. The Reading and Writing Specialist must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy.
The Reading and Writing Specialist needs to maintain a well-organized and harmonious environment by setting ground rules and expectations for behavior and fostering a sense of respect and cooperation among students. The Reading and Writing Specialist needs to collaborate with the students regular teachers to ensure everyone knows what the work expectations are for the students, and how they are progressing.

Montessori’s approach of “following the child” is the core of our philosophy at Alegria Montessori School.Alegria Montessori has a one year old program (12 months - 2 years), a toddler program (2 - 3 years), and a preschool program (3 years – 6 years) on the main campus. Alegria is located in beautiful St. Petersburg in a serene and natural environment near the coast. Alegria Montessori has both full time and part time positions available.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee small literary groups for grades 1 - 6
- Administer reading evaluations three times per school year
- Follow a planned curriculum
- Support students with developing their reading comprehension skills
- Guide students through the writing process
- Modeling kindness, respect and quiet voices during group times
- Using effective, clear and respectful communication with children, faculty members, and administration
Education/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Proficient writing skills
- 2 or more years working with elementary aged students preferred
