At the Fox Valley Family YMCA, group exercise is more than just movement—it’s a chance to build community, have fun, and inspire members of all ages and abilities. We’re looking for passionate Group Exercise Instructors who bring energy, creativity, and a love of fitness to every class. You’ll lead engaging workouts, create a welcoming environment, and help every member feel like they belong—whether they’re seasoned athletes or just starting their wellness journey.
Key Responsibilities
Class Leadership & Member Experience
- Teach a variety of group fitness classes (e.g., strength, dance, mobility, mindfulness, aqua, family fitness).
- Provide clear instruction, motivation, and modifications to ensure classes are inclusive and safe for all participants.
- Create an engaging, supportive, and fun environment that reflects YMCA values.
- Promote YMCA programs, events, and wellness initiatives to class participants.
Collaboration & Team Culture
- Communicate regularly with the Group Fitness Coordinator and fellow instructors to ensure consistency across classes.
- Participate in trainings, meetings, and events to stay current on fitness trends and YMCA best practices.
- Support a positive, collaborative team environment that encourages professional growth and camaraderie.
Safety & Facility Responsibilities
- Ensure classes are conducted safely, with proper equipment setup, room layout, and adherence to YMCA standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of studios and equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols, including CPR, AED, and First Aid procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Group Exercise Certification (ACE, AFAA, or equivalent)
- Experience teaching a variety of group exercise formats preferred
- Strong communication, energy, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to inclusive, community-focused fitness experiences
- Bilingual candidates and those with specialized certifications (e.g., Les Mills, Zumba, yoga, barre, etc.) encouraged to apply
Physical Demands
- Lead fitness classes and demonstrate exercises
- Walk, bend, reach, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for long periods
- Move equipment and assist with room setup and teardown
