POSITION OVERVIEW:The Academic and Learning Support Specialist is a member of the Student Support Team at Echo Horizon School. The central mission of the Academic and Learning Support Specialist is two-fold: 1) to ensure that all learners of all levels at Echo Horizon are appropriately challenged and supported academically; and 2) to ensure that Echo Horizon identifies and supports its students who learn differently and provides appropriate instruction and intervention based on educational best practices and outside professional evaluations.
The weekly twenty (20) hours for this position are as follows:
● Monday - Thursdays: 9am to 2:30

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Academic and Learning Support Specialist
● Work closely with the Senior Learning Support Specialist/Student Outcomes Coordinator and Division Directors and grade-level teachers to plan and implement differentiated instruction models, including specialized small-group instruction in reading, math, and writing.
● Lead or co-lead small-group instruction; provide pull-out individualized instruction in identified cases of need.
● Lead a series of whole-class executive functioning lessons in Upper Elementary and provide targeted executive functioning support as needed.
● Lead the process for identifying, monitoring, and remediating skills for students who learn differently, with a primary focus on the Upper Elementary grades.
● Meet weekly with members of the Student Support team to review identified students, monitor intervention plans, and assess progress.
● Meet with the Head, Division Directors, and other Student Support team members to review students experiencing challenges and refine intervention strategies to support their academic well-being.
● Meet with the Head, Division Directors, and other Student Support team members to review students who need additional academic challenge and differentiate instruction and projects to support their growth.
● Educate faculty and parents on topics relevant to learning differences.
● Collaborate with the Senior Academic and Learning Specialist to develop and implement Student Accessibility Plans (SAPs), manage Echo Horizon’s caseload, and advance best practices in support for learning differences and academic differentiation.
● Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of student records and communicate relevant information to faculty.
● Support faculty in implementing accommodations and clarifying expectations for assignments.
● Partner with faculty, parents, and outside specialists to coordinate and support students requiring specialized academic interventions.
● Active participation in faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, parent-teacher conferences, all-school events, and professional development activities as assigned.
PREREQUISITE EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
● Bachelor’s Degree in related field
● Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Child Development, Diversity and Inclusion, or similar field preferred
● Up-to-date with best pedagogical practices for child and adolescent development
● Strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences, especially dyslexia, dysgraphia, as well as a deep knowledge base regarding ADHD and Executive Functioning issues.
● Possess a strong knowledge base of early intervention, assessments, acquisition of reading and be current on general teaching of reading, writing, and mathematics.
● Have experience working with and providing differentiated challenging curriculum for gifted and high academic students
● Exceptional cultural competency skills in order to create a diversity responsive learning environment and to work effectively with a range of students from diverse backgrounds
● Ability to lead, work and communicate effectively in a collaborative team environment
● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
● Ability to effectively and respectfully handle diverse issues involving parents/guardians
● A positive outlook, flexibility, strong listening skills, a growth mindset, and an enthusiasm for working with young people and their families.
● Curiosity and a love of learning and children
● A willingness and enthusiasm to participate and be visible in the Echo Horizon School community
● First-aid and CPR trained
