Cat-i Glass is looking for the person who gets a genuine kick out of turning a messy customer drawing into a blueprint and routing so clean that nobody downstream has to ask a single question. If you've ever looked at a confusing set of instructions — anywhere, in any job — and thought I could make this make sense, this role was built for people like you.
What you'll actually spend your time on
- Translating customer prints and specs into finished blueprints and job tickets that our shop floor can run without guesswork
- Deciding routing across cutting, grinding, tempering, lamination, printing, wash, and inspection — and defending why that sequence is right
- Catching problems on paper before they become scrapped glass on the floor
- Working directly with department leads to make sure what you wrote actually works at the machine
- Owning your documentation — when something's unclear six months later, people come to you, not around you
What makes this position amazing
- You'll see your work matter within the week, not the quarter. Write a ticket Monday, watch it run Wednesday.
- Real variety. Optical cleanroom parts one day, defense-spec laminates the next. No two blueprints are the same puzzle.
- A shop that respects the paper trail. We're 160 people running 24/7 on Epicor Kinetic — we've invested in the tools and the culture to make documentation matter, not just exist.
- Room to actually improve things. If you look at our routing guide and think "this could be better," we want to hear it — and we want you to be the one who makes it better.
Who tends to thrive here?
People who are precise without being rigid, who'd rather ask one more question than guess, and who take quiet pride in work nobody notices until it's missing. Backgrounds that fit well: manufacturing/mechanical/materials engineering, CAD or drafting-heavy roles, or shop-floor veterans who understand process from the inside and are ready to own it on paper.
The fine print (you knew this part was coming)
- Degree or equivalent hands-on experience in engineering, drafting, or manufacturing process work
- Comfortable reading technical drawings and specs; CAD familiarity a plus
- ERP experience (Epicor or similar) helpful, not required
- On-site, South Elgin, IL
Ready to be the person who makes the shop floor's job easier? Send us your resume and, if you've got one, an example of documentation or process work you're proud of — a blueprint, a routing sheet, an SOP, anything that shows how your brain organizes a problem.
What we have to offer:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance — because a trip to the dentist or the eye doctor shouldn't be a financial decision.
- If you get hurt or sick, your paycheck doesn't stop. Short-term and long-term disability, so one bad injury doesn't turn into a financial crisis for your family.
- Time off that's actually yours. PTO plus floating holidays
- 401(k). Retirement isn't a "someday" problem. We help you build it starting now.
- Life insurance, on us. Company-paid, at no cost to you.
- We'll help pay for school. Tuition reimbursement if you want to keep growing — your future here isn't capped by the job you walked in with.
- This is a place you'll actually want to be. Friends & family events, a holiday party, and perks running all year long.
