Director of Nursing (DON)
Full-Time | Exempt | Leadership Role
We are seeking an experienced and decisive Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the Nursing Services Department and ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and resident-centered care. This role is responsible for the overall clinical operations of the facility and plays a critical role in regulatory compliance, staff leadership, and quality outcomes. This position is ideal for a strong nurse leader who values accountability, structure, and consistent standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, develop, and direct all nursing services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and nursing supervisors
- Ensure compliance with survey readiness, quality measures, and regulatory requirements
- Develop, maintain, and enforce nursing policies and procedures
- Oversee staffing levels, scheduling practices, and nursing assignments
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
- Participate in surveys, audits, investigations, and plan-of-correction development
- Review clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
- Collaborate with physicians, administration, and interdisciplinary teams
- Participate in admissions, care planning, discharges, and PASARR processes
- Monitor incident reports, medication errors, and corrective action plans
- Recruit, train, evaluate, and discipline nursing staff as needed
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license in the state
- Prior Director of Nursing or senior nursing leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical standards
- Proven leadership, decision-making, and staff management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
Physical Requirements

- Participation in clinical environments as needed
