FAMILY OPERATIONS NANNY / FAMILY ASSISTANT
We are looking for an exceptional Family Operations Nanny / Family Assistant to become a trusted professional member of our household.
We are a large, busy family with children of different ages and needs. Our family life includes school, activities, work, homeschooling, and community commitments. We are looking for someone who can bring warmth, reliability, organization, and initiative to the day-to-day lives of the children in their care.
This is not a traditional “just watch the kids” position.
We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the details that make family life work: anticipating needs, keeping routines moving, solving ordinary problems independently, and creating enough order that parents can focus on the things that require their attention.
What you’ll do
- Provide warm, attentive care for the children assigned to you.
- School and activity transportation. Manage morning and after-school routines.
- Help with homework and age-appropriate activities.
- Prepare simple meals and snacks.
- Handle children’s laundry and clothing organization.
- Keep backpacks, school materials, sports equipment, and other necessities ready.
- Keep children’s rooms and areas reasonably organized.
- Accompany children to activities and appointments.
- Handle occasional child-related errands.
- Keep track of supplies and communicate when something needs attention.
- Help children transition smoothly between activities and responsibilities.
- Communicate important information to parents.
- Take initiative and solve routine problems without needing constant direction.
Homeschooling
Four days a week, one parent will be homeschooling one of the children. The nanny will not necessarily be responsible for teaching. Instead, an important part of the role will be helping the rest of the household operate smoothly during homeschooling hours so that the parent can give the student focused attention.
This may include caring for other children, managing meals and routines, transportation, activities, laundry, and other child-related logistics.
We are looking for someone who can genuinely think: “You go teach. I’ve got everything else.”
Special Needs Care
One of our children has Down syndrome and benefits from additional support with communication and daily care. She can be difficult to understand when she speaks, so patience and a willingness to slow down and figure out what she is communicating are very important. She also requires assistance with toileting and has some food preferences that require patience and flexibility at mealtimes.
Experience with children with disabilities is welcome but not required. We are more interested in finding someone who is kind, patient, observant, respectful, and willing to learn her individual communication and care routines.
The person we’re looking for
- Warm and genuinely enjoys children.
- Patient and compassionate.
- Highly dependable.
- Organized and attentive to details.
- Comfortable managing several moving pieces.
- A self-starter who notices what needs to happen next.
- Able to anticipate needs rather than wait for instructions.
- Calm when plans change.
- Comfortable within a large and active family.
- A good communicator.
- Respectful of family privacy.
- Mature and trustworthy.
- Comfortable knowing when to handle something independently and when to bring it to a parent.
- Someone who takes pride in doing things well.
