Water Laboratory Quality Assurance Technician

SKG Engineering, LLC is seeking a Water Laboratory Quality Assurance Technician to perform bacteriological water testing and oversee the quality assurance activities necessary to maintain the laboratory’s NELAC accreditation in accordance with the 2016 TNI Standard and applicable TCEQ requirements.
This is a hands-on laboratory position that combines routine water testing with responsibility for maintaining the documentation, quality control, training, and compliance requirements associated with an accredited water testing laboratory.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform routine bacteriological testing of water samples.
- Maintain the laboratory’s NELAC/TNI accreditation for bacteriological water testing.
- Ensure laboratory procedures comply with the 2016 TNI Standard, applicable testing methods, and TCEQ requirements.
- Perform and document required laboratory quality control activities.
- Maintain and update laboratory SOPs, policies, forms, and quality-system documents.
- Maintain the laboratory’s document control system and required quality records.
- Review laboratory testing records and results for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Maintain employee training, competency, demonstration-of-capability, and data-integrity documentation.
- Maintain equipment calibration, verification, maintenance, and monitoring records.
- Coordinate and document proficiency testing requirements.
- Conduct and document required internal audits.
- Assist with and document required management reviews.
- Prepare the laboratory for TCEQ/NELAP assessments and audits.
- Address assessment findings and prepare and implement corrective actions and effectiveness verifications.
- Investigate quality-control failures, nonconformities, and other laboratory issues.
- Ensure proper sample receipt, handling, testing, reporting, and record retention.
- Maintain required documentation for laboratory supplies, media, reagents, and testing materials.
- Assist with training laboratory personnel on testing procedures, quality requirements, and documentation.
- Maintain laboratory records in an organized and audit-ready condition.
- Communicate compliance concerns, accreditation requirements, and laboratory needs to management.
- Perform other water laboratory duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to manage regulatory documentation and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned quality-system responsibilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to perform both hands-on laboratory testing and administrative/documentation duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous laboratory experience.
- Experience with bacteriological water testing.
- Knowledge of NELAC/TNI laboratory accreditation requirements.
- Experience with laboratory QA/QC, SOPs, document control, internal audits, or corrective actions.
- Previous experience working in a TCEQ-accredited water testing laboratory.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and detail-oriented, with an interest in both laboratory testing and quality assurance. This individual should be comfortable taking ownership of the documentation and compliance activities necessary to maintain laboratory accreditation while also participating in routine bacteriological water testing.
Previous TNI/NELAC experience is preferred; however, we are willing to train the right candidate who has the appropriate educational background, strong attention to detail, and the ability to learn and consistently follow regulatory requirements.
Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
