Z-Force Transportation is looking for an experienced Lead Diesel Technician to join our tractor-trailer maintenance team in Gary, Indiana.

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Diesel Technician for our second shift to oversee and perform maintenance and repairs on our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a team of technicians, ensure optimal vehicle performance, and uphold safety standards. The ideal candidate will bring extensive diesel mechanics experience, strong leadership skills, and a passion for maintaining top-tier fleet operations.
Duties
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain tractors and trailers
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
- Repair brakes, suspension, air systems, lighting, and other tractor-trailer components
- Help prioritize repairs and the daily shop workload
- Assist other technicians with troubleshooting and difficult repairs
- Help ensure repairs are completed correctly, efficiently, and safely
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and parts requirements
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop
- Take ownership of getting equipment repaired and back on the road
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, wheel alignments, and equipment inspections
- Utilize schematics, diagnostic tools, and automotive electrical system repair techniques to troubleshoot issues accurately
- Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and comply with industry regulations
- Maintain detailed service records and ensure timely completion of all maintenance tasks
Experience
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on technician who can diagnose problems, make quality repairs, and help other technicians get the job done right.
5+ years of tractor-trailer repair and maintenance experience preferred, with experience in several of the following areas:
- Air Brake Systems – Diagnose and repair air brake systems, chambers, valves, air lines, ABS components, and related brake issues
- Diesel Engine Systems – Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engine components and related systems
- Computer Diagnostics – Ability to use diagnostic software, scan tools, and fault codes to identify and troubleshoot problems
- Electrical Systems – Troubleshoot wiring, lighting, starting/charging systems, sensors, electrical shorts, and other electrical issues
- Trailer Repair – Experience repairing and maintaining dry van trailers, including brakes, suspension, doors, lighting, air systems, and related components
- Suspension & Steering – Diagnose and repair suspension, steering, wheel-end, and related components
- Preventive Maintenance – Perform scheduled PM services and identify problems before they result in breakdowns
- DOT Inspections – Knowledge of DOT requirements and ability to identify safety-related defects
- Air Systems – Diagnose air leaks and repair compressors, valves, lines, fittings, and related components
- Wheel-End Systems – Experience with wheel seals, bearings, hubs, drums, and related repairs
- Ability to properly diagnose a problem instead of simply replacing parts
- Ability to complete repairs safely, correctly, and efficiently
- Ability to work independently and make good repair decisions
- Willingness to assist and guide other technicians when needed
