We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our respiratory care team. In this role, you will assess, implement, and evaluate respiratory therapy services for patients across a variety of clinical settings, including critical care and non-critical care units. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams, you will provide evidence-based respiratory treatments while promoting positive patient outcomes and ensuring compliance with hospital policies, department standards, and regulatory requirements.
This position is ideal for a new graduate or early-career Respiratory Therapist looking to build clinical experience in a supportive acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, implement, and evaluate respiratory care plans for patients across all age groups while considering cultural, developmental, and psychosocial needs.
- Administer respiratory medications via nebulizer and metered-dose inhaler (MDI).
- Provide oxygen therapy, medical gas administration, humidity and aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, chest physiotherapy, respiratory mechanics testing, pulse oximetry, and airway clearance therapies.
- Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, including ventilator setup, monitoring, troubleshooting, and adjustment of settings based on physician orders and patient response.
- Assist with intubation, extubation, bronchoscopy procedures, suctioning, and advanced airway management.
- Respond promptly to Code Blue, Rapid Intervention Team (RIT/CRIT), emergency calls, and patient transports.
- Verify physician orders, perform accurate computer documentation, and maintain complete and timely medical records.
- Monitor patient response to respiratory therapies and communicate changes in condition to the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans.
- Provide education and support to patients and families regarding respiratory therapies and equipment.
- Mentor and support new respiratory therapy staff while promoting teamwork and professional development.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental projects, continuing education, and performance improvement activities.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, department procedures, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
- Current Oklahoma Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License, Oklahoma Provisional RCP License, or temporary letter to practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board.
- Current Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within two (2) months of hire.
- 0–6 months of related experience (new graduates are encouraged to apply).
- Working knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures, ventilator management, cardiopulmonary physiology, and respiratory disease processes.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency with experience documenting in electronic medical records.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in reviewing clinical and numerical data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical rotations or previous experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are a plus, depending on the patient population served.
