About The Pottery Stop
We're a kiln-fired DIY art studio in Ellicott City — home to paint-your-own pottery, fused glass, and unforgettable creative experiences for guests of all ages. From birthday parties and date nights to family afternoons and girls' weekends, we help people slow down, get creative, and leave a little happier than when they walked in.
We call it "Create Happy" — and we mean it, for our guests and our team.
The Role
As a Studio Associate, you're the friendly face our guests meet first. You'll guide them through the creative process, keep the studio running smoothly, and help make every visit feel special — whether it's a solo painter, a family of five, or a birthday party of twelve.
This is an entry-level, floor-based position. You'll work alongside Studio Leads who run the shifts, and you'll be supported by a team that genuinely cares about doing good work together.
What You'll Do
Guest Experience (most of your shift):
- Welcome guests, explain the studio process, and help them pick their project
- Share painting tips and technique ideas — you'll learn these quickly!
- Handle checkouts, project pickups, and guest questions with confidence
- Lead birthday parties for kids and help set up and run private events and workshops for all ages
- Encourage guests to come back, share on social, and spread the love
Studio Upkeep:
- Keep workspaces and the studio clean, stocked, and guest-ready throughout your shift
- Open and close the studio following our checklists
- Help restock supplies and flag when we're running low
- Process projects — shelving finished pieces and (once trained) unloading kilns
Team & Culture:
- Jump in to help teammates when things get busy
- Represent our values: warmth, follow-through, and a little magic
- Help newer Studio Associates as you settle in
Who We're Looking For
- Friendly, upbeat, and genuinely happy to be around people of all ages
- Reliable — we count on you to show up on time and ready to go
- Comfortable on your feet for a 6–8 hour shift in a busy, creative space
- Weekend availability is a must (Fri evenings, Saturdays, and/or Sundays)
- Available during HCPSS school breaks and the holiday season (Thanksgiving–New Year)
- Prior customer service, retail, or food service experience is a plus !
- Must be 18+.
This Could Be a Great Fit If You...
- Love working with people and thrive in a positive, fast-paced environment
- Want a part-time role with a flexible schedule and a fun team culture
- Are looking for a place where you can grow — we promote from within
- Care about doing your job well and being someone your team can count on
Room to Grow
Studio Associate is the starting point of a clear growth path at The Pottery Stop. High performers who show up consistently, lead parties with confidence, and model our values can advance to Senior Studio Associate and eventually Studio Lead — our first step into shift leadership. Advancement is based on performance and attitude, not just time on the clock.
Physical Requirements
This is an active floor role. You should be able to stand and move for 6–8+ hours, lift up to 50 lbs (clay and glaze supplies), climb ladders and step-stools, reach above and below waist height, and work comfortably in a fast-paced, busy studio environment with moderate noise. The kiln room involves elevated temperatures. The physical requirements above are essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be available.
