Overview
Law Offices of Travis H. Whitfield is a growing family law firm based in San Jose, representing clients throughout the Bay Area in a wide range of family law matters. Our practice includes high-conflict custody disputes, domestic violence restraining orders (DVROs), child and spousal support, property division, paternity actions, post-judgment matters, and complex dissolution cases.
We are seeking a full-time Associate Attorney with a minimum of two (2) years of California family law experience who is motivated, organized, and committed to providing exceptional client service.

Responsibilities
The Associate Attorney will work directly with the Managing Attorney and legal support staff on all phases of family law litigation, including:
- Drafting pleadings, Requests for Order (RFOs), responsive declarations, motions, settlement agreements, and judgments
- Preparing and responding to discovery
- Reviewing financial disclosures and supporting documentation
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Attending court hearings, settlement conferences, mediations, and case management conferences
- Assisting with trial preparation, including witness preparation and exhibit organization
- Managing an assigned caseload while meeting court deadlines
- Maintaining accurate and timely billing entries
- Working collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants
- Developing case strategy and providing practical legal advice to clients
Qualifications Required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active member of the California State Bar in good standing
- Minimum of 2 years of California family law experience
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to independently manage deadlines and multiple cases
- Professional demeanor with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts
- Experience appearing at hearings involving:
- Requests for Order (RFOs)
- Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs)
- Settlement conferences
- Case management conferences
Preferred
- Experience handling complex financial and property issues
- Trial preparation experience
- Familiarity with California Rules of Court and local court procedures
- Experience using Clio, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal research platforms
