SUMMARY
To transport students to and from school in a safe, efficient, and economical daily basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conducts pre-trip inspection of vehicle prior to every trip for defects.
- Uses established routes and designated stops.
- Operates vehicle on approved time schedule.
- Reports accidents and student injuries to authorities.
- Conducts emergency evaluation drills in keeping with division regulations.
- Drives defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- Reports personal absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute driver.
- Reports vehicle defects to supervisor.
- Establishes favorable working relationships with other drivers, teachers, students, and other school staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of State laws and local ordinances.
- Complies with dress code.
- Uses professional conduct at all times.
Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, school personnel and everyone within the confines of the job.

Supervise students while in vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Satisfactory health condition as certified by a competent medical authority. Must hold a valid driver's license. No reckless driving or driving under the influence convictions within five years and/or fewer than two moving violations within 12 months of employment. English language proficiency is required per Code of Virginia 46.2-341.14.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Meet State requirements for appropriate licensing.
- Meet State physical examination requirements.
- Meet local and/or State standards for driving test.
- Meet local and/or State standards for driver record check.
- Must have successfully completed the National Red Cross First Aid Course.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Work is typically performed inside and around the exterior of a vehicle. Frequent bending, stooping, crawling and climbing to inspect on and under a vehicle is necessary. Occasional lifting of at least fifty pounds is required. Frequent contact with driver supervisors and students is required. Occasional contact with principals, parents and the general public is required. Occasional meetings with principals and parents are necessary. Person shall have no impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger, or an arm, and no other structural defects or limitation likely to interfere with the ability to control and safely drive a school bus. Must have the physical ability to assist in the evacuation of the students. Occasional operation of vehicles during inclement weather is required.
